Muzyk i kompozytor, grający na wiolonczeli oraz na saksofonie. Ukończył Uniwersytet Muzyczny w Kolonii, uczęszczał do konserwatoriów muzycznych w Metz i w Paryżu. Jest autorem ścieżek dźwiękowych do wielu filmów m.in. Nosferatu (wspólnie z Art Zoyd). Rain Joris Ivens czy Why Get Married The Day of The And Of The World Henry Clevena. W jego twórczości przeplatają się inspiracje muzyką klasyczną, jazzem, bluesem. a także muzyką eksperymentalną i elektroniczną. W 2010 roku muzyk wystąpił z recitalem w zabytkowej cerkwii św. Paraskewy w Nowicy podczas III Spotkań Teatralnych Innowica.

Former member of the progressive bands Universe Zero and Art Zoyd that launched the Rock in Opposition movement and spawned the music genre in the late seventies, Mergenthaler continues to be hugely in demand performing regularly with his trademark sound of electric amplified cello. His solo show is mesmerizing, creating a rich layered tapestry of sound through loops and effects that are emotionally evocative and powerful.
Studying in Metz and Paris, Mergenthaler gained experience in classical music as a member of the European Youth Orchestra. Then he spent four years in Cologne Germany studying the cello.
For 8 years he was member of the French group Art Zoyd, the progressive rock band that mixes free jazz, progressive rock and avant-garde electronica, touring throughout The East and West Europe and the US. After returning to his homeland he increasingly performed as a soloist with his cello. In 1993 he released his debut solo album Musik Für Einen Engel to critical acclaim. (wpbooking.com)
